What Is Redox Potential And How Does It Affect Your Health?
Redox potential measures the ability of water to reduce or oxidize contaminants (toxins). It is sometimes referred as oxidation-reduction potential (ORP). Oxidation involves an exchange of electrons between two atoms. The atom is “oxidized” when it loses an electron in the process. The atom is “reduced” when it gains an electron. All liquids have a oxidation-reduction potential (ORP), which is measured in mill voltage (mV). A positive redox reading promotes oxidation (aging), and a negative redox reading will reduce or negate oxidation. The higher the positive number, the worse it is; the lower the negative number, the better it is for the body. Positive ORP increases oxidation leading to free radical damage to cells; a forerunner to degenerative diseases.
